IN AN EMERGENCY DIAL 911
The Northport First Responders was organized in 2003 as a volunteer, non-transporting, emergency medical response service by a group of citizens with a strong ethic of community service. The intent of the First Responders organization has been to augment the delivery of care provided by the Belfast Ambulance Service by stabilizing patients and assisting with patient care. Since 2003, we have evolved our mission to include close cooperation and coordination with the Northport Volunteer Fire Department. We provide support at fire calls and live fire trainings by assessing fire fighter conditions and caring for injuries. At accident scenes and other incidents, we receive manpower and assistance from the fire department, such as traffic control, setting up Lifeflight landing zones, extricating victims from vehicles, carrying victims out of the woods, and much more.
Our base of operations is the Beech Hill Station located at 16 Beech Hill Road, next to the Northport Town Office. There, we have a rescue vehicle housed to carry our equipment to and from calls. The Northport Volunteer Fire Department has generously shared its spaces with us and several members are common to both rosters. The First Responders and the Northport Volunteer Fire Department are both dispatched through the Waldo County Regional Communications Center located in Belfast. This is where your 911 calls in Waldo County are routed to.
Our meetings are scheduled for the third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the meeting room of the Beech Hill Station. We welcome anyone with an interest in joining to come and learn more about the First Responders at one of our meetings.
