If you are a new resident of Northport and need to register to vote, you may do so at the Town Office. You will need to bring your Maine Driver’s License or Photo I.D. with you as proof of residency. If your I.D. does not list your physical address, please also bring a utility bill, rent/lease agreement, current vehicle registration or other official documentation showing your physical address.

Voting is conducted at the Town Hall, 16 Beech Hill Road, Northport, Maine. Polls are open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Absentee ballots are available 30 days before each election. You may request an absentee ballot up to three days before the election. Please keep in mind that ballots MUST be received back no later than 8:00 p.m. on election day.

ABSENTEE VOTING:

The Absentee request period starts 90 days prior to any election.  We normally receive the ballots for an election 30 days prior to the election.  When we receive the ballots, we send them out to any and all voters who have submitted an application for that election.  You must submit your request for each election to receive an absentee ballot.  Within the 30 days prior to each Election, voters may come into the Town Office and vote in person as well, no application needed.

There are four ways to request absentee ballots:

Electronic request – You can apply for an absentee ballot through the State of Maine portal listed below.  Follow the prompts and fill in your information, and the Town Clerk will receive an email stating that there are pending requests on the following day.  We then check the portal for our voters and process each request.  Using this method, you will receive a confirmation that we have either received or denied your request.

Voting at the Town Office – A voter may cast their absentee ballot at the Town Office during normal office hours, Tuesday through Friday – 8:00 am. to 4:00 p.m, and Saturday – 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon, starting 30 days prior to an election.

Northport Town Office, 16 Beech Hill Road, Northport, Maine 04849

Written request – You can also print the application from the link below, complete the form and send it to the Town Office.  You can mail the application, drop it in our drop box, or drop it off to the Clerk.  When we receive it, provided it is complete, we will process it and send you a ballot when we receive them.  Again, we do not receive ballots until 30 days prior to the election.

Telephone request – A voter may request a ballot by telephone.  The Town Clerk will verify the voter’s identity by confirming the voters residence and date of birth.  The Town Clerk will mail the ballot to the voter once we receive them.  To make a telephone request, please contact the Town Clerk at (207) 338-3819, Extension 2 or 3.

Per State Statute Title 21-A, Section 753(B)((2), the last day to request an absentee ballot is five days before any election.  Absentee ballots must be received by the Town Clerk by 8:00 p.m. on Election day in order to be counted, per M.R.S.A. Title 21-A, Section 755.  Please plan accordingly.
